Pakistan to join 15 February demonstrations

Anti War Committee Pakistan decided today on 31st January to organize protest demonstrations on 15th February all over Pakistan. This is to show solidarity with the Iraqi people against the US imperialism aggression on Iraq. AWCP has responded to the organizers of 15th February demonstrations all over the world.

In Pakistan, demonstration will be organized in 20 cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Gojranwala, Larkana, Sahiwal, Okara, Peshawar, Qasur, Layya, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Mandi Bahaudin, Sheikhupura, Multan, Kharian, and Hyderabad. More cities will join the on the day, the AWCP expected.

This is despite the fact that the Eid Ul Azha will be celebrated on 12th February and many will still be traveling to the families or coming back to the work places after Eid.

The Anti War Committee Pakistan has also agreed to organize an Anti War Conference on 8th February at Lahore. This is to invite most of the left intellectuals, writers, poets, political parties activists to come on one platform and build the movement against the war.

The AWCP also agreed to organize eight protest camps on various working class districts of Lahore between 8-14 Februarys.

The Committee meeting held was chaired by Abid Hasan Minto, president National Workers Party. It was also attended by activists of various progressive political parties, social organizations and trade unions including Pakistan Peoples Party Shaheed Bhutto, Labour Party Pakistan, Jemhuri Amen Party, Social Democratic Party, Joint Action Committee of teachers and doctors against privatization, Education Foundation, Democratic Labour Federation, Saraiki National Party.

Anti War Committee Pakistan is a united platform of all the Left Parties of Pakistan alongside with radical social organizations and trade unions.

Women Action Forum of Pakistan has also decided to hold a demonstration against American imperialism aggression on Iraq on 20th February. Joint Action Committee for Peoples Rights agreed to support this demo and anti war demonstrations and action in its meeting held yesterday in Lahore.
